HOLISTIC THERAPIES
‘Holistic therapies' (sometimes called alternative, complementary, traditional or natural medicine or therapies) is an umbrella term for a number of disciplines, including Reflexology, Indian Head Massage and Reiki/Seichem healing, and is usually used parallel to conventional medicine. The philosophy of complementary therapies is holistic, where the person's social, emotional and physical health are integral to the therapeutic approach. The person is viewed as having an inherent capacity to heal when impediments to health are corrected.
How do holistic therapies work?
‘Holistic’ refers to treating the body as a whole rather than just focusing on a
set of symptoms or specific organ. All of the systems and organs of our body work
together and the holistic way of healing looks at the whole picture rather than one
snapshot. Holistic healing is also a way of looking at the many aspects of a person
-
For example someone might have a pain in their neck and shoulders. On a physical level this may be caused by sitting incorrectly at a desk or bad posture, on an emotional level this could be caused by feelings of tension and anxiety which have affected the relaxation of those muscles and on a spiritual level it could be because the person is feeling unable to express their thoughts and feelings which is causing a blockage in the throat and heart chakras (energy centres).
